PRIMITVO QUILES Fondillon Vino Nobile 1948

  • Tasting notes
Fondillon is a very rare, strange and beautiful wine style from Alicante, nearly extinct and kept alive by this house. It's just off-dry, and not-fortified, Monastrell aged for an average of 70+ years in its YOUNG expression and 130 years minimum average age in the 'mature' one! These are very small soleras of large, very old oak. 1948 tasting note: Red fruit tea in a caramelised, developed aromatic cloud, with brilliant volatile touch. The palate has a drying grip after a generous red fruit palate, still varietal and floral. It gently touches all parts of the mouth, wandering low-down, and cleaning up after itself, exiting gently and leaving a salt-spice touch and long deep lingering perfume. Mostly, a tannin-grained essay in textural journeying. Wonderful.
